Federica Mentasti is a scientific assistant and PhD candidate at the Chair for the History and Theory of Architecture (Prof. Dr. Maarten Delbeke) at gta. She received a Bachelor degree in Sciences of Architecture from Accademia di Architettura Mendrisio (Switzerland, 2014) and a Master Degree in Architectural History and Theory from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland, 2016).
Her background includes experiences in a number of related disciplines including art, art history, graphic design and photography. Her commitment with photography resulted in a rich photographic practice both as amateur and professional as well as a critical engagement with the discipline developed by attending extracurricular courses (Advanced Course of Photography by DS Visual School, Milan and Seeing through Photographs, online course run by MoMA Museum).
Her prospective research seeks to investigate the relationships between architecture and photography in a multidisciplinary project aiming to explore how the visual experience provided by photographs affected the way of looking, practicing and interpreting, architecture in the XIX century.
