Alfredo Thiermann is an architect born in Santiago de Chile in 1987. Through his practice and theoretical research, Alfredo explores the intersection between architecture and different medias, spanning from sound installations and film scenography, to single family houses, public buildings, and large-scale infrastructures. He has taught and lectured at Princeton University, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad San Sebastián, among other institutions. His built projects include ’Dynamics of the Void’ (2013) at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes; ‘Artifact Nr. I’ (2012) in Paine; ‘House I’ (2015) in Lago Llanquihue; and the “Design Biennial” (2010) in Santiago de Chile. He was a finalist of the Young Architects Program organized by MoMA in Santiago de Chile and a nominee for the MCHAP Emerging Architect Prize by IIT in Chicago. Alfredo’s written and built work has been published in Revista ARQ, Trace Magazine, Zepellin Magazine, Potlatch, Real Review, Thresholds and Domus, and has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Santiago, Istanbul Design Biennial, Museo MAC Quinta Normal, Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho, among other institutions. Alfredo studied architecture and received his professional degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Chile and a Master’s degree from Princeton University. He is a current fellow at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in Zürich developing a research about the Architecture of Radio. He lives, works and takes care of Pedro Tristán and Juan Nataniel between Zürich, Santiago and Berlin.
