Markus Lähteenmäki is a fellow of the Doctoral Program in History and Theory of Architecture at Department of architecture at ETH Zurich where his supervisor is Maarten Delbeke.
Markus’s PhD project looks at the connecting points of different arts in Russia in 1910s and 1920s through the concepts of movement and the body and with a focus on architecture. He also works as a curator, recent projects including curating and organizing the exhibition "Planetarium: Oleg Kudryashov and Peter Märkli presented by Alexander Brodsky" (gta Exhibitions, Zurich, April-May 2019) and "101st km: Further Everywhere", an exhibition and temporary monument with Alexander Brodsky to mark the centenary of the October Revolution (Pushkin House, London, October-November 2017). He previously worked as the curator of the Drawing Matter collections, where he developed the trust's many activities and organized and co-curated exhibitions including "This Was Tomorrow: Reinventing Architecture 1953–1978" (Swiss Architecture Museum, 2016) and "Land Marks: Structures for a Poetic Universe" (Hauser & Wirth Somerset, 2015).
Markus previously studied at the University of Helsinki, Moscow State University, Finnish Institute in Rome and Courtauld Institute (MA, 2013). His writing has been published in The Burlington Magazine, The Architectural Review and Harvard Design Magazine, and his curatorial work has been featured in The Financial Times, Art Forum and London Review of Books. He is a co-organizer of the New Academy in Helsinki.
