Matthew Critchley
Curriculum vitae

Matthew Critchley joined the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) at ETH in October 2017, his PhD is under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Maarten Delbeke.

Previous to joining the ETH, he worked as an architect for a number of offices in London and Basel, including Herzog & de Meuron. He studied at the Architectural Association in London under Pier Vittorio Aureli, writing an elective thesis comparing the operative arguments of Reyner Banham and Aldo Rossi. His publications include an article derived from that thesis, published in OASE, titled ‘Continuity or Crisis: Aldo Rossi vs. Reyner Banham’ (2016) and an introduction in AA Files, to a thought to be lost interview with Mies van der Rohe, published as ‘Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Conversation with H. T. Cadbury Brown’ (2013).
